Attacks by the People’s Resistance Forces (PDF) have intensified in Myanmar since the indiscriminate use of force by the army known as Tatmado. In the Southeast Asian country, where the two sides are at odds, the path to resolving the issue through negotiations is shrinking. In such a situation, the country of Southeast Asia is walking towards an unknown destination.

The National Unity Government (NUG), made up of deposed lawmakers, has vowed to step up attacks on the military government. NUG Defense Minister Ye Mann is hopeful that General Min Aung Hlaing’s government will be overthrown by 2022. He told Irrawaddy in an interview with the Myanmar media that 291 members of the army had been killed in PDF attacks in three districts in December. PDF members were also killed in the attacks. At least 2,000 members of the army have left the party and joined the PDF. Many more Army members are waiting to join the PDF. So the victory of the people of Myanmar in this year is certain. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The International Crisis Group (ICG), a Brussels-based international think tank, has called Myanmar’s bipartisan stance “terrible.” The ICG published an analysis in October last year entitled ‘Terrible stalemate in post-military Myanmar’. It said there was no sign of an end to the violence that Tatmado and his opponents have been waging against each other. The military has stepped up searches and arrests to curb guerrilla activity in urban areas.

Again, the PDF is active, Tatmado is carrying out brutal attacks on the local people in the countryside. In retaliation, the PDF is carrying out covert attacks on the military fleet, attacks on government installations and killing members of the military junta. As a result of the reciprocal position of the two sides, the opportunity for discussion is getting narrower and narrower. The people of Myanmar will have to bear the brunt of this. The economy has been bad enough in the last one year. Health and education are deteriorating, and food security and poverty are deteriorating. If this situation continues, it will affect the region outside of Myanmar. In such a context, the international community must take urgent action to end Myanmar’s political crisis and ongoing violence.Different countries and the United Nations have to take up the challenging task diplomatically. It is important for the international community to have a priority on Myanmar.
